A new Defra Secretary of State has been appointed following a cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The new position will be held by George Eustice MP – the former Farming Minister – and a former member of a Young Farmers’ Club.

The change in the leading position that affects agriculture and rural affairs comes at a critical time for the industry with new legislation coming into force following Brexit.

HOPS Operations Director Sarah Boparan said:

“HOPS Labour Solutions welcomes the appointment of George Eustice as Defra Secretary of State.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with Defra to ensure the needs of growers and seasonal workers are met through the development of the SAWS pilot.

“We are proud to know that Mr Eustice is a former member of Praze YFC in the Cornwall Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. His appointment to a role in central Government comes at a critical time for the industry and we hope that YFC members are inspired by the successful progression of Mr Eustice’s career.

“HOPS’ profits are invested into the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs to support the development of rural young people.”
