Our client is a well established privately (family) held mixed farm which has been operating in East Kent since 1946. The business has always sought to expand as new opportunities and business diversification openings have arisen and the company currently farms approximately 4,000 acres and produces a diverse number of end products, including: fruit (apples, pears, cherries, apricots and plums); hops; cereals; potatoes; and livestock (single suckle beef cattle and sheep). Our client is an approved supplier to all major UK supermarkets and served produce to them all during 2017/18.

Job Description: Trainee / Graduate Fruit Farm Manager

Our fruit enterprise has a long-standing supply arrangement with a leading UK discount supermarket. We have recently become a direct supplier to this customer and we now have an opportunity to offer a role for a graduate qualified individual to manage this direct supply process and to help maintain our growth and operate at the highest level. The role offers experience of both operational duties and business management duties.

Your main responsibilities while working with us would be:

  • Taking full control of the direct supply process, including taking and meeting orders, invoicing and meeting the demands of our supermarket customer
  • Assisting with managing seasonal staff, their accommodation and the payroll
  • Assisting with managing our top fruit packhouse
  • Assisting with managing harvest protocols
  • Quality Control during both harvest and packing / despatch
  • Operating the farm’s cold stores, including new DCA technology
  • Farm assurance, BRC and other audit requirements

This is a new role and you will also help the fruit manager where ever required which will enable you to build on your understanding of all aspects of our fruit production enterprise. The ideal candidate will have a background in horticulture or agriculture, however the applicant’s main attributes will be common sense and enthusiasm.
